A town that attracts that many tourists as Dubrovnik does needs to have quite a few wine bars. Especially if the town in question is located at the heart of several very well known wine-growing regions. And it’s a well known fact that Dubrovnik’s location is closely tied to many excellent wines, both indigenous and imported. And so the Old Town hosts several great wine bars, and D’vino wine bar is amongst the oldest wine bars open there, as it has been in business since 2008, so it’s almost a veteran now. The owner and manager is Sasha Lušić, Croatian-Australian, famous for his passion for Croatian wine and other traditional alcoholic products (supposedly, his liquors with various herbs and fruits is something everyone should try if given the opportunity).
Quite a lot has changed since it opened, but what remains is the fact that D’vino is still considered by many to be one of the coolest places to spend time in Old Town Dubrovnik. The bar is a small place, hidden from plain sight just off Stradun, with a few tables inside, and a really small but charming outdoor terrace. As most people would expect, this wine bar is oriented mostly towards tourist, and not locals, and so it is open during the tourist season – luckily, tourist season in Dubrovnik does last longer than elsewhere in Croatia, so this bar is open from April until late October.
The bar offers their guests over 100 labels of Croatian wine, with well over half of them offered by glass. The owners say that in their wine bar you will be able to taste every decent Istrian, Slavonian and Dalmatian label, and the very knowledgeable and helpful staff will help you discover some of the wines you haven’t even heard of, but are worth a taste. One of the specials in this wine bar are the so-called flights, where you’re poured three different wines in reduced quantity for the price of one, so you can taste and compare more wines for the same amount of money. They have the red wine flight, with three different plavac mali wines included, and a white wine flight with whites from various Croatian regions (Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia).
In addition to wine, D’vino offers gourmet food platters with a clear focus on local and traditional ingredients. Those include various Croatian cheeses, olives, dried fruits, charcuterie from Slavonia, sun-dried tomatoes and similar wonders. The prices of wine in D’vino are quite high by Croatian standards, as glasses start at around 30 kuna for the wine of the house, but are quite appropriate for tourist standards. Next door to the bar is D’Vino’s private tasting room, ideal for private group tastings with food and wine pairings, and other private events. You need to book that well in advance during the high season.
