Jadrolinija to Carry Over Ten Million Passengers by the End of Summer

Total Croatia News

A very busy season for the national ferry carrier, Jadrolinja.

Good results of this year’s tourist season can be seen in the domestic passenger shipping lines which have generally recorded a significant increase in the number of passengers. In the first seven months, national passenger shipping company Jadrolinija has carried five and a half million passengers, and a one million and four hundred thousand vehicles. If the weather conditions remain favourable till the end of August and in September, it could reach a figure of ten million passengers, which would make it one of the record years for the company, reports Novi List on August 21, 2015.

The largest increase in traffic was recorded in the Rijeka navigational area, which will certainly be seen in the financial results at the end of the year, since that area includes the three ferry lines which are among the most profitable in the Adriatic; Valbiska-Merag, Brestova-Porozina and Prizna-Žigljen. In the Rijeka navigational area, since the beginning of the year until the end of July there were 1.3 million passengers, which is 15 percent more than a year earlier, and 520,000 vehicles, or ten percent more than last year.

The most used line is, as expected, the one between Valbiska and Merag with 500,000 passengers and 230,000 vehicles, which is a growth of 26 percent of passengers and around eight percent of vehicles compared to last year. A significant increase, given the number of passengers, has been recorded in the Split-Dubrovnik navigational area as well, with 2.6 million passengers, which is eight percent more than last year, and 630,000 vehicles, or five percent more than in 2014. The largest number of passengers was recorder as always on the Split-Supetar line, with 900,000 passengers and 180,000 vehicles.

The only navigational area where the number of passengers is almost exactly the same as in the first seven months of last year is the Zadar-Šibenik navigational area, where Jadrolinija’s ships have transported 1.4 million passengers.

The management of Jadrolinija is satisfied with the results and believes that the successful season will continue. “Jadrolinija has benefited from an increased number of tourist arrivals to Croatia, and on almost all lines we have an increased number of passengers and vehicles. We have managed to successfully respond to all challenges. We hope that travellers have recognized our efforts to provide them with efficient transportation to their destinations. I believe that good results will continue until the end of August, and in the upcoming postseason”, said managing director Alan Klanac.

How will the increased traffic affect the financial results of Jadrolinija remains to be seen. The national shipping company has already recorded significant revenue growth last year, finishing the year with a positive financial result.
